Bahareh's Story
Rarely a leader comes along, seemingly out of the blue, with just the right combination of community activism, education, analytical abilities, communication skills, and passion to catch the attention and imagination of the people.
Bahareh Azizi is that kind of leader.
Born in Houston, Texas the daughter of a former diplomat and an educator, Azizi returned to the United States after graduating from high school in Kuwait. She earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology from Michigan State University and then moved to Atlanta to pursue a doctorate degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Since completing her PhD, Azizi has dedicated her career to research, education, and the mentoring of students; at Georgia Tech and Oxford College of Emory University. Known as the teacher who connects well with students, Azizi was chosen to host the PBS TV pilot show called Science Investigators (www.pbs.org/wgbh/si/). The show aired on PBS in January 2007 and her role as a host helped educate and bring awareness about the impact of science and cool technological advances in the world today. Azizi is determined to use her scientific expertise and problem solving skills to find solutions on issues affecting District 6.
Azizi is an active member of the Junior League of Atlanta. Through her involvement with the Junior League, she has volunteered at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and served as the chair of Kids in the Kitchen (KITK), a national program dedicated to fighting childhood obesity. She has organized KITK events at the Boys and Girls Club in metro Atlanta, increasing awareness of a critical national health program.
In addition to being an individual with an analytical and scientific mind who is dedicated to the community, Bahareh Azizi is an experienced business entrepreneur. As CEO of A&B International Trading Corporation, her family's upholstery business, Azizi is experienced in management, business growth and development.
After living abroad and having traveled extensively, Azizi proudly calls Atlanta her home, and is determined to vigorously support the issues that matter most to you. A longtime resident of Midtown, Azizi strongly believes in giving back to our intown neighborhoods. She values the sense of community and realizes that the success of a community depends on a respect, appreciation and understanding between the various constituents. With her fresh perspectives, analytical mind, and compassionate heart, she is determined to make a difference in District 6 and the city of Atlanta as a whole, by addressing issues such as public safety, community development, education and transportation.
In addition to her civic and academic pursuits, Azizi is an avid runner and member of tennis leagues around the Metro area. She also enjoys playing classical piano and loves to cook for her friends and family.
