Safety

In 2008, the City of Atlanta witnessed a 20% increase in property crime, armed robberies and burglaries. Overall, in the past two years a 38% increase in these crimes affects the overall safety of our city. The need for greater police presence in our streets, neighborhoods, schools, and parks is a top priority.

SOLUTION

I will immediately work towards increasing the presence of police officers and safety patrol units in District 6 and the city of Atlanta. We need to increase the number of active police officers on the streets and increase the efficiency of the neighborhood, school, and park patrolling. If the budget does not allow the hiring of new police officers, I WILL WORK to hire part-time retired police officers to do administrative work while allowing active police officers to patrol the streets. This action would increase the number of active police officers without great cost. We also have the responsibility to take care of our police and fire departments, making sure that they are in excellent working conditions. I WILL WORK for effective and rapid 911 responses to all neighborhoods.
