High Property Taxes and Water Bills

In a time of fiscal hardship, property taxes continue to rise in Atlanta. With the average home in Atlanta valued at $240,000, the last budget approved by the Atlanta City Council increased property taxes by $240.00. The City of Atlanta's budget needs to be able to protect its citizens, especially in times of economic stress.

We must ensure that Atlanta has an efficient and reliable water supply and sewage system. We must also ensure that residents are not burdened with high water bills and are protected against inefficiencies or lack of accountability by city government.

PROPERTY TAXES SOLUTION

I WILL WORK to address the inefficiencies currently plaguing Atlanta's city government. This includes things such as bills not being collected or paid on time. I will ensure that millage rates do not increase by instituting prudent budgetary practices. One form of revenue is the inclusion of a liquor and cigarette purchases fee, a similar measure that has been tested in other cities, such as Chicago.

WATER AND SEWAGE SOLUTION

I WILL WORK to ensure that the water and sewage improvements in the city of Atlanta are completed efficiently and in a timely manner. I will protect residents against dramatic increases in their water bills, especially in a time of economic stress.
